Край Банско започват ежегодните археологически разкопки на крепостта "Ситан кале", разположена в подножието на Пирин. Това бе повод и за среща на групата археолози с кмета на общината Георги Икономов, съобщиха от общинската управа, цитирана от БТА.
Екипът включва 14 млади любители археолози, които ще продължат изпълнението на дългосрочната програма за разкриване на исторически артефакти в района, разказва ръководителят на екипа Владимир Баряков.
Проучванията започват през 1987 г., като изцяло разкрити и завършени са археологическите обекти в местностите "Св. Иван" и "Шипоцко". В последните години се разкриват късноантичен акропол в местността "Карагонско" и укрепени селища в местностите "Св. Никола" и "Ситан кале".
Сред местните хора крепостта "Ситан кале" е позната под имената "Калята", "Стана кале" и "Сатан кале" и се свързва с легенди за съпротивата срещу османското нашествие, ръководена от Бан Банко. Според някои версии етимологията на името Банско е обвързано с този бан.
На мястото са открити следи от крепостни стени, множество гробове и керамични фрагменти, които свидетелстват за принадлежността им към късноантичния период IV - VI век и очертават един твърде интензивен и многолюден живот в този исторически отрязък.
От 2007 г. насам археологическите проучвания на територията на община Банско се финансират изключително и само със средства от общинския бюджет, информират от общината.
